Thunderbird

I use Thunderbird as my email client. I hate it. It is so very slow and often some mails will not open.
To send an email also takes a long time. I sit here watching the green bar moving so slow.
My local computer shop put it on my laptop as they said it was good.
When I used Windows Live mail it was so fast and everything opened up fast.
I cannot even see anywhere to stop most of my mails going into the junk folder.

Does anyone else here have problems with Thunderbird?

Windows Defender - do I need it?

Since the major upgrade to Windows 10 Pro a few days ago I keep getting notifications popping up saying that Windows Defender has a problem - when I go to Windows Defender it tells me that both Defender and Norton are both turned off, although Norton is working correctly.
Do I need Windows Defender (it never made its presence known in Windows 7 Ultimate), and if not how do I get rid of it?
