60 years of TV Adverts

ITV celebrates its 60th birthday on Tuesday – and that means it is also the anniversary of the first ever TV advert.

At 8.12pm on 22 September 1955, Gibbs SR toothpaste became the first brand advertised with a one-minute long ad shown to the 100,000 homes with TVs.
