Or anybody else disappointed that W10 doesn't support TV Tuners.
I really thought that the software that comes with TV tuners would self support the tuner it is designed for.
I have two USB tuners one is a K World and that developed a very intermittent fault but you could almost guarantee it would manifest itself just as Rooney got into the box with Sterling in close support so it had to be replaced and I got an AverMedia. I didn't need the multi megabyte media players of either tuner as WMP did the job perfectly well. Installing either of the Tuners own media players would have just given me use of a remote control but as I only watch specific programs then turn it off the extra space on HDD wasn't worth it.
Anyway when I upgraded to 10 I tried the media players which came with both tuners and neither could see their own tuners without WMP being installed or so it seems.
So I embarked on a search for a decent Media player with all important TV Tuner capabilities. XMBC come Kodi which comes with 10 is supposed to support a TV Tuner, to me that has to be a joke, surely they are taking the urine.
Installing (if you can) the NextPVR 'add on' is supposed to be the best PVR tuner for W10 and UK PAL, well what a palaver to achieve ziltch. Next up was Media Portal (which is a spin off from XMBC/Kodi and is recommended by it seems people who have not really tried it:rolleyes:). Media Portal seems to share the same sence of humour. as Kodi's software writers. .... I gave up on that as well.
I researched and tried a number of others, then discovered ArcSoft TotalMedia 3.5, which is not to be confused with 'Total Media Theatre' as that seems pretty popular in some parts as a media player but I couldn't get the tuner to work. It seems many other folk who were also looking for a TV tuner for W10 couldn't get it to work on W10 either.
I suspect a lot of these 3rd party Media Players have been quietly tapping into WMP and riding piggyback in which case you can't really blame MS for taking their ball home.
Anyway! .. Total Media 3.5 works flawlessly on W10 including the Tuner and according to regular users TM 3.5 it recognises lots of different 3rd party USB tuners as well as installed Tuner Cards. It plays everything that WMP could play including DVDs and also burning Media to disc.
Plus you have more control of settings and channel line up than WMP.
Plus it's completely free, :D you can get it here.

Couple of words of warning, initially when I tried the live TV option it said no device detected but I ignored that and told it to scan for TV channels a short way into the scan the TV Tuner LED came on and they chatted nicely and have done ever since.
Secondly when you scan for broadcasts make sure you check 'use local channel numbers' otherwise the channels will be all over the place, like BBC 1 mixed up among the radio stations for instance. Ticking use local channel numbers gets all the TV programs together in the order we know them and all the radio programs likewise.
