Anyone "game for a laugh"? although we shouldn't

I have just penned a letter to our local paper. I hope it's not seen as irreverent:-

Unsurprisingly, in St Mary's St. Weymouth stands St Mary's Church, oddly enough, adjacent is a small no-longer used, burial ground. Between the two, a passageway has been created.

For whatever reason, workmen arrived to dig a few holes. How I can pen these words without laughing I cannot imagine?, but carry on I will.

It seems on one of their digs, they came across some bones. I won't say they were found, because they were not lost. They were “discovered”.

I'm tempted to ask the question “and were they in a coffin?”. Either way, the police were called, in fact the Dorset Echo shows a photograph of three police cars in attendance plus police “guarding the scene”.

The media decides it is worth reporting, I dread to think what local TV will make of it. So if anyone out there feels they could shed some light on the matter and try to explain why it is bones could have been in such a place, I am sure your information will be well received.
