Computer shopper have printed a couple of letters re Win 10 support.
This is a summary of how I read it - buy the mag or do more research by all means - but don't blame me... MS are still trickling more info into this area ... so things may change ... or even have been misinterpreted - I don't want anyone quoting past posts back - the world ... circumstances and opinions change ... live with it!
"Win 10 will be supported for the lifetime of the product" (that's THIS version of Win 10 as well as the device!)
or until 2025. In that time MS will "evolve" win 10 as it sees fit ... but your party invite remains in force.... as long as the machine manufacturer supports your hardware with the current version of 10.
The condition for any update (aka service pac) is that your machine must be up to date ... this covers all updates as well as service packs.
Now for the "twiddly bit" AS WELL AS drivers supplied by the manufacturer.
So anyone paranoid enough to be using O&O ShutUp10 or similar to delay or refuse may find they're not eligible for "big" updates too ... we'll see when it happens.
It also clarifies the driver issue - MS work with the manufacturer and pass THEIR latest approved drivers.... so anyone still using driver updaters on 10 - uninstall.
When the manufacturers stop their support - MS will follow their lead and won't provide security updates or support hardware that doesn't have updated drivers... so while it should continue running - like XP the clock starts ticking.
Now there's another twiddle here.
Dell recently produced some windows 8 machines (XPS 2710) and are telling customers they won't be providing driver updates for Win 10 ... so the machine won't update.
After a bit of pushing apparently what's happened is they've used remaindered stock to make up some models ... which the OEM won't update. So win 10 won't have the required drivers included.
(I think I've got that right).
