External hard drive is sending me crazy!!

Hi, I bought a Seagate 3T usb3 external drive to replace an old 500 GB Seagate unit for backups. It’s a new fairly high spec pc (Chillblast rapture running W7 pro 64bt). My old Seagate drive works fine but although the new drive can read & write ok Every time I try to copy data From the drive produces the error message "incorrect parameter". It the file is just a couple of mb it’s ok and it seems to be able to cope if the file is zipped, but otherwise fails every time.
I have returned the drive after Seagate’s repair software failed to help and their customer support is very poor. I have now just received my third drive and still the problem persists. Seagate replace the drive with a reconditioned unit (!) each time and refuse a refund saying it can only be refunded via the retailer, but as it is outside the 30day period the retailer (Ebuyer) say it’s not their problem. I have looked online but references to this problem have not helped. Seagate try to blame W7 but insist the drive Is compatible. Any help welcome!
