IE comes probably with Bing as its search provider. If you would prefer another provider, go to Tools>Manage add-ons>Search Providers and click on 'Find more search providers'. If the one you want isn't available through the Internet Explorer Gallery, ironically you'll have to do a search to find it! When you do, you should be able to set it as a search engine in IE; to make it the default, highlight it in 'Search Providers' and click on 'Set as default'. All your searches will then be carried out by your preferred search engine.
If you haven't got IE open, you can do the same thing by going to Control Panel>Internet Options>Programs tab>Manage add-ons.
