WWE SummerSlam: General Discussion

Even though it's still a bit off, I figured I'd go ahead and create this thread since there were reports a few days ago indicating that WWE had decided on four of the top matches for this year's SummerSlam.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar - Even before the SummerSlam poster or whatever was leaked by Amazon.com, anyone that's kept up with the behind the scenes goings on since after WrestleMania could figure out that Brock Lesnar was going to be in a title feud before long. Reportedly, Lesnar was penciled to face Bryan at SummerSlam before Bryan was sidelined. Considering that Lesnar is set to also appear at Night of Champions, the ppv after SummerSlam, for the first time, it's likely that Lesnar takes the title from Cena and drops it back at NOC.

Roman Reigns vs. Triple H - This is a match that we've been hearing talk about since just after WrestleMania XXX. We saw the first tease of this match this past Monday during the closing minutes of Raw in which Reigns stared Trips down off the ring apron after coming to John Cena's aid. Throughout 2014, Triple H has done nothing but put over younger talent and I don't see that changing here.

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt - With the surprise return of Y2J on Raw and subsequently being attacked by the Wyatt Family, this bout is likely to happen. Some reports indicate that Jericho's current run will last at least through the fall season and that Jericho jumped at the opportunity to work with Wyatt. Last year, the two of them had a brief feud when Wyatt was still on the NXT roster and Jericho subsequently won the match they had. I think it'd be cool if WWE referenced it, but I doubt they will since they keep NXT & the main roster separate with the exception of a main roster star working an occasional match. If Jericho's run does last through most of the rest of this year, this may not be the only match between them. Ultimately, Jericho will do what he's done best for the past several years: put over the younger guy while looking like a million bucks in the process.

Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon - You can practically smell this match coming. Brie appeared backstage in a brief segment on Raw with Nikki stating she was there to support her man and Steph eventually had security escort her out. She booked Nikki in a handicap tag match in the next segment and appeared on Main Event last night, booking her in a tag match against The Funkadactyls with Alicia Fox as her partner. Needless to say, it didn't go well for Nikki. Given that Stephanie is taking her gripes out on Nikki and that John Cena has become a target of The Authority, I see this taking place as a means of Brie "getting her job back" if she beats Stephanie in at SummerSlam. I'll be surprised if Stephanie is the one who issues the challenge, given that she was obviously reluctant to face Vickie Guerrero one on one a few weeks back. The match could also be a reason to have Daniel Bryan appear at the event, if he isn't cleared by then to wrestle, maybe being in Brie's corner or on guest commentary ringside. The match won't be a technical marvel, but it'll generate a feel good moment and fans will go nuts at the prospect of Stephanie getting taken down a couple of pegs.
