Windows 10 upgrade with problems

I have now made two attempts to upgrade my desktop from 8.1 to 10. Both times the upgrade appeared to go well. With the first attempt I tested my email client, Thunderbird, the computer crashed with nothing responding. On the second attempt the same thing happened but this time I was able to uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall it. This meant I had to put back all my accounts, which was not simple and took a while. As I had previously upgraded a laptop I knew I had to update Kaspersky Internet Security before the upgrade. However Kaspersky reports that it does not fully work on Windows 10. I discovered that it causes a loop if I insert an external drive. it tries to scan it and fails, repeating the error with no way of getting out. Then I discovered that Classic Start did not work (to be expected as it embeds itself deep within the services). It proved impossible to uninstall it and impossible to reinstall it. So I rolled back again to Windows 8.1. Then I discovered that if you rollback some changes you make to windows 10 roll back with it. Classic Start was still causing a problem. I have not yet found out how to correct this. It won't reinstall or uninstall. I suggest that anyone who has Classic Start uninstalls it before the upgrade.
