I'll give a bullet point run down of things I noticed from this big show:
That's all for now. I think as far as TNA goes, this was a monumental show that I'm hoping will lead to wind in the sails of TNA.
- This show translated extremely well to TV. The crowd seemed hot and was filled with what appeared to be classic wrestling fans, aware of wrestling history.
- Even though ECW is long and dead, it sure does linger around and have its own fanbase. Much like the Jews or Palestinians for so long, it has no home, but finds itself attached to different organizations... and seems to boost whatever organization it's with.
- Austin Aries is truly the real deal. I would say he and a healthy Daniel Bryan would be wrestling's #1 dream match when looking at physicality, fast-paced movesets, pioneering reversals, and high energy wrestling.
- The 6 sided ring seems to encourage a faster style. I think it has to do with turnbuckles not being so deep into the corner due to its shape. Once you go to the corner in a 4 sided ring, you're far removed from the center. I think it slows the pace down significantly.
- Eric Young was misused so blatantly for so long. The guy is bursting with non-verbal charisma, has smooth transitions, has a good look, and has been around since day one. It's about time we treat him as a serious wrestler, even though that doesn't mean he can't include a comedy spot here and there at all.
- I chuckled out loud at EC3's rebuttal to the wrestling fans in New York
NY Fans: "YOU CAN'T WRESTLE"
EC3: "I disagree"
NY Fans: "YOU CAN'T WRESTLE"
EC3: "I'm very good"
New York, Ethan Carter was ready for you. Despite his connections to the gloryhound herself, he belongs, and should be pushed soon to major title contention.
- Lashley vs. Hardy was an average reaction, until Hardy took a sick swanton bump onto the steel steps on the outside. Nothing will get you cred with the hardcore fanbase quicker than sacrificing like that for the show. Hardy should have done that earlier, and the crowd would have been hotter for the match. I think the Hardcore fanbase has a tough time getting the "Lashley WWECW title run" and "Hardy baby-face WWE" tastes out of their mouths. However, they weren't booed out of the building.
That's all for now. I think as far as TNA goes, this was a monumental show that I'm hoping will lead to wind in the sails of TNA.
