I recently removed GWX from my computer after deciding that I did not want to upgrade to Windows 10. Since then my computer has been behaving very strangely and I wondered if anyone could shed some light on the problems.
1) Since removing GWX, both Firefox and Thunderbird take 20-30 seconds to load. Previously they both took about 5 seconds. I have reset Firefox but it made no difference
2) The keyboard becomes unresponsive or slow from time to time. For example I could press a key in 'Word' and either nothing at all happens or the letter that I hit appears in the document several seconds later. It is almost as if something is using 100% of the CPU and excluding everything else. This situation lasts for about 10 minutes, after which the keyboard works normally. Re-booting when this is happening sometimes makes the problem go away but more often than not it does not.
I am wondering if someone has somehow taken control of the computer and added it to a malware network. I have a WiFi network which is protected (?) by a WPA password
The computer has 8 GB RAM an Intel i5 CPU @ 3.2 GHZ and is running 64-Bit Windows 7
SP1. It dual boots with Ubuntu and Ubuntu is not affected by these problems
Can anyone suggest what might be going on? Are there likely to be "remnants" of GWX causing this?
