sky go & bt sport online

my problem is that I can't "enjoy" watching either sky go or bt sport on my laptop (hp dv 6000) which is oldish. I get either non sync speach or juddering on the gp bike races bt is worse than sky.. my question is can anyone reccommend a good(not too expensive) laptop (or is a desktop/monitor a better option ?) I think I need i5 or i7 and a dedicated graphics card. when look at specs and reviews for such as the lenovo z70 many comments are very conflicting ,and when I use argos many models have no reviews .so any advice would be welcome ..thanks

Updating a second PC

Having now got the GWX icon, and found that the Sony laptop is compatable (see --> http://ift.tt/1LFLPXY)

I have the ISO dvd for updating the PC (and presumably can use the same DVD for multiple PCs)

However, I am confused about what I need to do next:

1. Do I need to create a totally separate email address for the Sony Laptop so I can associate Windows 10 to a different email account.
(Presumably I can create a new @outlook.com account? for this)

How do I go about this please

secondly - The Sony came from a shop, so it was all preinstalled, and I have no discs whatsoever.
From Disc Management on the Lappy, I have the following:

Should I update from scratch (keeping no files or programs), or just update as it is.
I have worries about drivers etc, but want to get as clean a PC as possible. There is nothing I desperately need to keep that I can't reload on, but I would like to create a separate Partition for Virtual machine stuff

Could I uninstall programs I don't want to keep, and then update?

What's best to do?

Homegroups

Can someone please explain the concept of Homegroups.

I thought that if I had 2 Computers connected to the same homegroup, that I could transfer files from one to the other.

However I must be wrong on this, because I have my Laptop which says
"The Homegroup is not available because you are not connected to the Home Network".
My Desktop asked on W_!0 set up if I wanted to join a Home Network, and I said yes, but now it's trying to create one with a totallyu different password to the one I have written down. I have changed this to the one I thought I had from before, but my Laptop is not letting me view or change the password, as it says I'm not connected to the home network!

I can't seem to win here, so is there any way I can start again from scratch?

I have set the Laptop to "Leave the Homegroup", but now it says I can't reconnect because my laptop is connected to multiple networks! :mad:

...For instance I Have never heard of any signal interference by 3rd parties ...NATO think they will be infiltrated by this route..and Lightening strikes? Being the Grid the signal Continues same as Internet hubs
The Not spot Issue will be almost resolved it as better than 90% of the World uses electricity off the National Grid as far as I can recall None of the ISP's made any comments about the Broadband over Powerline protocol Looking @ to from a different angle the Home user would have 2 signals coming in the Telephone signal and Supplemented by (Bop) via the Powerline boxes as Now Or if the Powerline goes down still got a connection over the powerline some wireless Telephones (with charging "Bases") have this trick though it not advertised (Only good for local Home ring main)
PS It'll be impossible to pick out any WiFi signal on the Power line Have to resort to Wardriving and WiFi Detection in the current style ...No Break in possible for eavesdropping

Hi all. I've had something baffling happen for the last week or so. When I open my browser, Opera, and begin to type in the address bar, it comes up with nonsense, not in the least like anything I typed.
I haven't made any changes or downloaded anything lately, so I have no idea what is going on.

and My Busiest feed in the Well run Smartmail section are my Facebook feeds Spam is Less than 1 per month !(what beats the Filters)
So am Pleased with it (Top Secure site in my book)
Like Gmail it does have a Malbox capacity Counter of which it says on Mine
Modestly I have used 0.0001 % of the capacity and I can store another 54 million Emails

Windows 10 File History

I tried backing up using File History and found that it kept backing up files again and again so that my external drive would soon have been full with multiple copies of each file.
I could not find a way to make it delete older copies before copying the same file again.
Has anyone the answer to this problem?
I have reverted to using the Windows 7 Backup system that is still usable.

W10 screen snap like W8

Hi. I've just upgraded my laptop to W10 from W8. On W8 I used to snap a TV app to the right of my screen and then do desktop based stuff on the rest of the screen. I can't work out how to do this in W10. I can snap one app to the right and another to the left, eg TV to the right, Chrome to the left, but if I then go into word, that fills the screen and goes over the TV app. Any ideas please? I have an HP desktop and when I used the above tool it told me my Graphics card was not compatible. I bought a new one recommended in Webuser and it works fine on the PC. The problem is the "Get windows" tool still tells me that the card is incompatible, but it it quoting my old card number which I have removed all trace of. How can I get it to make a fresh appraisal and not use its memory, which I think is what is happening?

I saw this site in an 2 page article in Computeractive Magazine which I subscribe to, this explains that you may have been hacked years ago and people may be reading your emails and have access to your personal details although they may not have been used yet.

How to Restore Crashed Apps on Chrome

When I started my laptop, the other morning, several boxes popped up informing that a number of applications had crashed on Chrome. I was offered the chance to click to correct, but the notifications disappeared as quickly as they appeared. Because I was not connected to the internet there was nothing I could do immediately.

Once on Chrome I did notice that a number of applications were missing. To resolve the problem, I clicked on the menu, the three bars on the top right. Going to settings, I clicked on Extensions and was then able to click against each item to enable them again.

I have no idea why they crashed, but at least it was an easy problem to resolve.

Just received the latest Computeractive (subscription) (available in shops next week) and reading this and previous copies of both CA and Web user the magazines do seem to be very anti W10, for example in the latest issue there are quite a few letters etc 'dissing' W10 but nowt in favour in spite of the fact that lots of people seem to like it. Both magazines hardly have a good thing to say about W10 and if I had not tried W10 and found it fine I am quite sure I would not have upgraded had I read the magazines first!

This is a privacy related post hence in this sub-forum. I noticed that stores are now asking "do you want your receipt emailed to you?" then ask your email address. Under pressure with people behind you you may without thinking give it and then they will start sending you emails about offers etc! Not good. Hopefully the "unsubscribe me" link will be enough. What's wrong with paper receipts? Also hate the way they ask you to fill in a form for a store loyalty card there and then because you may want more time to think exactly what personal details they need and which boxes to tick.

However, I read the following post on another forum saying that this is bad for SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

A big mistake from an SEO-perspective that I see a lot of webpages make is they duplicate most or all of the links that are in their navigation bar again in their footer. All that does is weaken all of your links throughout the entire site.

So should I replace the above with just the boring links like:

CCleaner and AdwCleaner

Just wondering if anyone with HitmanPro.Alert has had any alerts when upgrading CCleaner or downloading AdwCleaner in IE ?

Having attempted to upgrade CCleaner through the program and directed to the FileHippo site, HPA.2.0 has alerted me to IE being compromised and not to use it for any sensitive use until I'd scanned for viruses.

I get the same when attempting to download AdwCleaner, but Norton 360 is also blocking that and I'm getting the same on two laptops.

Junkware Removal Tool downloaded fine and removed some bits but I no longer have its log.

I've ran ESET Online Scanner in Safe Mode with Networking on both and while nothing was found on one, ESET found an unwanted variation of Installer.ABK on the other.

A Rootkit scan and checks for PuPs and PuMs with MBAM came up clean.

After the scan I was still getting the same with CCleaner and AdwCleaner so it's possible those sites could be compromised, as I wouldn't expect the same alerts/blocks on two laptops.

I have had Norton 360 block Adwcleaner in the past, but it was just on one laptop.

The Shell: Command Trick

So far I have discovered 2 entry restore/open folder tricks when typing direct commands into the Run box of Windows 7 ! and the same is also Good for Windows 10
which does Not display the Games Folder and all You do to reveal it is Type shell:games in the run box and the Folder is Shown ...Might have to "Pin" it as Its Not on the Start menu OK?

The other item is Typing shell:windows which reveals the Main Windows Folder contents

For the record with XP, only shell:windows is workable

Using the Outlook email client from Microsoft Office 2007 on W7 PC. I have started to encounter a very annoying recurrent pop-up message. It is asking for verification of email address and password on each of the 3 accounts I use. The address and password (as *****) are filled in and no matter how many times I click either Save or Cancel a minute or two later it comes up again, and again, and again!! It's driving me nuts.

New Hard drive - isn't recognised

Hi
I am running the New Windows 10 and all updates have been completed.
I have a Foxconn G31mx series mother board, which is SataII.
Normally I use 3 hard drives with it, for backups mainly but recently had a seagate 1tb crash and have tried to replace it with a WDC WD10EZEX 1tb SataIII hard drive. I was under the impression that it would be backwards compatible. ie would run but at SataII speeds.

Although device manager and Speccy all see the new drive ( reporting its working correctly ) it isn't recognised in windows. I have even downloaded the wd data lifeguard tools software which also says its working.

When I look at its properties via device manager it says in the events tab

Graphics card upgrade;

I currently have in my PC set up a "PNY NVIDIA Quadro K2000D 2GB Professional Video Card".
32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz DDR3 Memory.
Intel Core i7 4930K 6-cored Processor 3.4GHz (Overclocked to up to 4.5GHz)
Now running Windows 10. (after advice from Chillblast who built the PC)

My main use for this PC has been photo editing (from RAW images) and HD video editing.

I would however like to play some video games occasionally.
I tried playing "Watch Dogs" recently but I think the graphics card couldn't keep up with the frame rate at my max resolution on my main monitor (I have 3 but only one is 4K).
I am also looking at getting some "flight simulator software"
I've had recommended to me the following cards:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Graphics Card
or,
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Graphics Card
or (v.expensive),
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Graphics Card.

Does anyone have any recommendations based on the above? Please bear in mind I still use photoshop,adobe software, and my nikon software for editing my RAW images and HD video.

Any advice appreciated.

eBay script problem.

I am using Windows 8 and for a couple of days now have been experiencing a script problem when I am using Firefox to access eBay. When I list a page full of items for sale and start to scroll down I get a message telling me "Script: http://secure-assets.rubiconpr…ay-uk-SRPLR_160x600_BTF.min.js:3" and that I can Continue, Debug script, or Continue. If I take the Continue then I can scroll until the next page or until I open an item to view it and come back to the page when I get the same message. Sometimes I get a Stop Script option and if I take that then I can continue to scroll . I have deleted all history and cookies and re-started the pc but can't stop it behaving like this.

Would be grateful for any help because this is making eBay virtually impossible to use.

NVIDIA GeForce Experience problem

I am running a ASUS X550C laptop which I bought from my son who was into computer games big style and has moved on.

Recently my NVid icon informed me that there was an update available. On going to the NVid web site and clicking the download section I received a pop up saying :-

"Default language assembly is missing cannot execute client" WHAt ??? Sounds like a death warrant has been cancelled at the last minute." Complete GobbledeGook.

Despite looking all round the website, which I don't find particularly helpful, I can find nothing which relates to the NVid version in my Laptop which is:-

Can anyone help? I believe this was in the lappy when he got it and that the Gforce version I have might be used by the lappy for other than game playing.
If not I would like to remove it and regain some space. If I need it, any info on where to find the update please would be very useful. Anyone with any knowledge of NVid stuff; can you help?

Oh, and if possible, what is NVid supposed to do, in brief please if you have time. Many thanks in aaaaaaaanticipation.

I have no icon re the advisor, and know that I did ask about this in June. The Links I have from that post show that I need th icon to start anything off.

Is this still true?

What I want to do is run something that will tell me if the Sony will take the upgrade even though I don't have the taskbar icon.

Everything I try seems to show that I need the upgrade icon.

Music put on desktop to apple shuffle?

My son has music stored on a USB stick which yesterday he transferred it to my laptop (desktop) and from there, transferred it to a newly bought Sony Walkman and was about to remove it when I asked if it could be transferred onto out little used apple shuffle's. He is unfamiliar with apple stuff so held back and suggested I ask the procedure.

So, as it has been years since I initially put music on them,I would like to ask how I go about using his stuff, does anyone know please?.

Using flash drives in amplifiers

economically, buying a few of these to store music, it makes sense to buy the 64gb drive rather than the 32gb.

But I'm not sure if I want to spread my music collection over several 32gb rather than a couple of 64gb ? What do people think, especially those who have done the same sort of thing.

Also, I have smaller flash drives, but they are all 2.0 so if I get 3.0 is there any difference apart from the speed, will there be compatibility problems of any kind ?

And, does anybody recommend any particular sort of flash drive, I don't want them to bust on me with regular use, as has happened before with a maxcell one, even though it was only a 1gb which I bought a long time ago.

Programs or Apps - Which have you chosen?

I thought I'd be going a little bit mad with the number of apps I'd be installing from the MS Store. (I skipped 8/8.1) However, pretty much all I've done since installing Windows 10 is reinstall my regular desktop programs. For example, I know there's an app for VLC, but being unsure weather or not the app would work with DVDFab Passkey I decided to stick to regular program version.

This only happens with Google Chrome (it may happen with others but as this is the one I use the most I am not altogether sure whether it does happen with other browsers).

When I am clicking on something totally innocuous on a website there is another tab that flicks up with regards to something totally unrelated, this has been for things such as gambling and porn (which fortunately I have blockers on as is a family network). I have ad-blockers and poppers etc on my system, but still it somehow 'slips through the net'. I have tried un-installing and reinstalling Google and for a time I thought this had fixed it, it didn't. What is even more frustrating though is it just does it at random times and not all the time.
Can anyone give me any advice?

Freemake Video Downloader 3.7.5.0

An update to Freemake Video Downloader v3.7.5.0 has just been issued. I tried getting the update from the Freemake site, but both Norton and Emsisoft Anti-Malware said the site is malicious and blocked the download. In the end I got the download from MajorGeeks here

It tries to install OpenCandy which isn't really malicious - it's a PUA* and a PITA to remove if you get it. Once I was sure that the downloaded file was safe and free from any other crapware, I put it on a USB stick and copied it onto both laptops. It's a good thing to have Unchecky running during installation as it blocks the PUA. I ran a full system scan with Norton and a quick scan with MBAM after installation just to be on the safe side.

Hello everyone,

I took some pictures of our drive way on my Samsung Galaxy S5, stored to the SD card. However, soon afterwards they were corrupted.

I see them as I took them as thumbnails but when I open them, either on the PC or mobile they are as you see them here ----> http://ift.tt/1fBLrOJ they have a large part of them covered with a grey shadow.

Perchance, I did have another mobile phone in my pocket. Could that have been the cause? If I can't recover them is this a lesson learnt to avoid them being corrupted again?

Can I have win10 pro

I have a win8.1 basic laptop but I would like Win 10 Pro.
If I do a free upgrade I will automatically get Win 10 Home.

I also have Win7 Ultimate laptop.
If I do a free upgrade I will automatically get Win 10 Pro.
BUT the laptop is not compatible for Win 10.

Will Win 10 Pro not upgrade on win7 laptop because of incompatible device?

So how will I get Win 10 Pro on my win8 basic laptop?
Create a partition and install win7 on compatible win8 laptop? -I read this is not possible because Once you install windows 8 on a system it will not allow you to install a prior OS like windows 7, this is because of the way the file system is layed down on the HD.
Windows 7 uses a NTFS file structure where as Windows 8 Uses a GPT file structure.
The data is layed down and located on different parts of the drive. That is why windows 7 cannot install due to the Gpt format of the drive. As it is an older operating system and does not understand GPT format. IS THIS TRUE?

Recovering .dbf files without .dmp files

I have a problem to recover .dbf files from one server (which already crashed) to another server. We don't have any .dmp files. We only have the .dbf and .ctl plus all files in the /oracle/admin folder.

We cannot even begin to estimate the amount of Corrections before updating has to be made
and to compound the Issue Google Maps/Earth do not have common cross positioning features! for \Location placement and are singing from the same Hymn sheet @ update time
Classic case in Ireland(Co.Wexford) where my relatives live They call It Kilmuckridge Village,But Google Calls it either Litter or Litterbeg and making Morriscastle (a farming Location until the 1960's )Half a Mile to the East in a Development of new holiday homes near the Beach and Even Giving a Name for the Road Castleannesley (Never had a formal Name) Locals would say the coast or Beach road! There are at least 3 Big Caravan Sites down there Now ..Getting Like North Wales!

Only truth about that road is the remains of 2 Medieval "Castles"/Houses?) 1 on My relatives farm land Which Belonged to The Macmurroughs (sp?) clan who Later Became the Murphy Family(anglicized name) Rough later Translation of Murroughs Castle?

Using IE you get the options to Open, Save or Save As. No such options present in Edge. Hit the download button and the download is immediately activated.

Given how sites are tricked up these days this leaves you totally blind as to what you are downloading until after the event by which time it may be too late.

There seems to be a lot of security concerns with this new operating system.

More food for thought before downloading W10 with it's hidden costs.

After digesting the feature's comments, we turn to the finale on p74 and Barry Collins going that little bit further and poses the question 'what happens when Windows 10 starts to surpass the capabilities of your hardware.'

Oh my goodness, what happens? Enough to really make me for one think again, that's what.

I'll not spoil the party, buy a copy and judge for yourself.

Is this a scam?

I have just received an email allegedly from apple stating a charge is to be made in respect of icloud. There is a link which is provided if I wish to dispute. When I click on it, the page turns red and phishing is mentioned. I'm asking myself now, is this my antivirus kicking in to state the email is not genuine, or is it something introduced to make me think I should ignore the email and that the charge take place.

There is something curious, it says Receipt nr, not No.

PDF Printing

Hi,
I am trying to print from Edge to a pdf printer.

I have Foxit Reader, and Microsoft Print to pdf, and Microsoft XPS document writer.

If I try printing to Foxit Reader, I get a message:



(If it wasn't there it wouldn't be an option to select)

Print to pdf - well that should work shouldn't it..

1. It gives no information where it's going to save the pdf to.
2. When you press print, it gives a message:



So, look in the Documents folder, and there it isn't.

Checked Public Documents, My Documents - nothing.

Where are they saved?
Why can't I select a different location to save them?

... and Microsoft want people to use Edge???

Really trying to use this Edge, but getting P****d off with it's total lack of functionality.

...and is there anywhere you can actually tell Microsoft that there are issues, so maybe, just maybe in months to come they might think about fixing it?

Probably not...

EDIT: Oh by the way PDF REdirect doesn't work either... but it all works in IE.

Received an email (in French) that I'd subscribed 0n 22 August.

Another today 23rd, now in English, that Bank/credit card had declined payment of 50 Euros, followed by another that Account cancelled, but with outstanding balance, then yet another to re-enable account pay the 50 Euros.

Thunderstorm

Last night we had the Daddy of all thunderstorms here in the North East. About 10pm the lightning was severe and each flash within a couple of minutes each time.

That did it, like sugar off a shovel, I was into the study, shut down the computer and pulled the plugs from the main.

Herself thought I was demented, but recalling a storm equally as bad one August day years ago, same thing pull the plugs until the storm had gone. Next day, up and down the street white vans arrived. Seems it was scorched innards at every house but ours.

As yet, no vans have appeared but then again it is Sunday. So, was I a silly George?

Format conversion

Has anyone any experience of / can recommend any online video format conversion package?
I have a .mov file [I think this is Apple Quicktime] which won't play but I believe that I have the software to play mp3 or 4 files, so a decent conversion would seem to be called for. Tks.

Hi,

Here's a strange one:

10 days ago I loaded Windows 10.
I immediately loaded Produkey (from Nirsoft) to "read" my Windows 10 Key.
It read it as XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
It was different to the Windows 7 key which was the base for the upgrade.

On reading page 19 of the latest issue of a magazine (which no longer has a forum section), a System Tool relates to software from Major Geeks.
I tried this, and got a 25 digit key: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX - the only problem is, it's a different key to Produkey's :confused:

So - which one is right.

I have re-run produkey's software and Major Geeks's - both keys are the same as the first time round.

If I had to reload Windows 10, I might be in trouble...
