Dodgy download site - CNET/Download.com

Although I already knew that this wasn't a good site to download stuff from, I was interested to read Jane Hoskyn's article 'Named & Shamed' in the latest issue (461) of CA. It comes to something when a software developer tells you not to download from Download.com. The site for Attribute Changer actually has a warning as follows:
Quote:

Important information : Do NOT download Attribute Changer from CNET/Download.com using the suggested “Download Now” button. Instead, use the “Direct Download Link” or get it directly from my website to be 100% safe from nagware.

There are other Download portals using similar methods to push nagware and adware on user’s computers. Other sources try to charge money for Attribute Changer downloads … Attribute Changer is free of charge and will NEVER be bundled with adware and nagware.
You can read the warning and more about Attribute Changer itself here:

Download | Attribute Changer

As Jane Hoskyn says, you can read less politecriticism of CNET/Download.com on the Reddit site here:

Friendly warning - download.com = adware ...**** you cnet : geek

Just avoid CNET/Download.com, it's unlikely that it'll be the only site you can download software from. Always use the developer's site if possible.

Attribute Changer looks like a handy program too!
