After posting this thread about an extension in Opera for doing this, I remembered a similar add-on - Convert Case - which I had in both Pale Moon and Firefox to do this. I was never all that keen on it as it worked only after you'd posted a message and then took you to another web site to carry out the conversion.
I had a look round Mozilla's add-ons site and found 2 add-ons, both of which I've tried and found that they work well. All you have to do is highlight the text you want to convert, right-click and click the appropriate option. There is also a 'Sentence case' option in each add-on. Each works both before and after you've posted your message without the need to use the 'Edit' button. If you're interested, have a look at the following links:
