Freemake Video Downloader 3.7.5.0

An update to Freemake Video Downloader v3.7.5.0 has just been issued. I tried getting the update from the Freemake site, but both Norton and Emsisoft Anti-Malware said the site is malicious and blocked the download. In the end I got the download from MajorGeeks here

It tries to install OpenCandy which isn't really malicious - it's a PUA* and a PITA to remove if you get it. Once I was sure that the downloaded file was safe and free from any other crapware, I put it on a USB stick and copied it onto both laptops. It's a good thing to have Unchecky running during installation as it blocks the PUA. I ran a full system scan with Norton and a quick scan with MBAM after installation just to be on the safe side.

Quote:

A PUA / PUP (potentially unwanted application / potentially unwanted program) is a software that may be unwanted on the PC and sometimes comes bundled with freeware software. You can use the software at no additional costs but it will display pop-ups or install a toolbar in the default browser changing the homepage or the search engine. Some of them will also run several processes in the background, slowing down the PC or will display numerous ads. These programs can be installed without your consent (also called adware) or will be included by default in the express installation kit (ad-supported). In order to avoid installing such PUA / PUP, you have to always install the main software by choosing the advanced/custom options.
Are there any video downloaders that don't come with bundled junk? Even MajorGeeks calls it 'Bundleware'!
