I have nothing against female wrestlers and actually kind of wish that the Chyna experiment was more of a success because I believe women can be just as tough as men. I'd be perfectly cool watching the ladies kick the shit out of the men, although it will never happen.
But I can't stand watching the Diva's matches. Every time I try I get bored, whether it's the storylines or the matches themselves. My problem tends to be
- There aren't enough of them. I swear I feel like I'm watching the same matches over and over again (although admittedly this has become a problem for the WWE in general. The Rhodes Brothers are taking on Rybaxel AGAIN this week).
- I find the storylines to be kind of misogynistic, albeit not necessarily in a mean spirited way. When two guys feud, it's usually more simplified. But when Diva's clash, it's as if men are writing storylines and confrontations based on how they perceive women act. They'll fight over a guy, pull hair, dump some sort of substance on them, etc. The whole 'Summer Rae- Layla- Fandango' story pretty much represents everything I can't stand about the Diva's.
So I usually fast forward through the Diva matches. However, I will concede that it's gotten better lately. The AJ Lee Vs Paige feud has been working for me. Both are talented wrestlers and Paige is finally finding a personality as a heel, while the whole 'acting like my victim is really my friend' angle is pretty unique. Hell, AJ has been taking some pretty brutal bumps which you don't see too often in the division. The Brie Vs Stephanie angle has been pretty neat as well, although it was pretty awful at first (Steph abusing Nikki got old fast).
So do you guys watch it? If so, do you think it's getting better or worse? I've only been with wrestling since the end of 2013, so I can't judge anything prior to that. I was a big mark during the Attitude Era, where I think the women were more interesting, but found themselves in even more sexist angles, so that was a double edged sword.
