The G1 Tournament, on the whole, benefits all of the participants who are in it. TNA has a hard time establishing the credibility of their stars, so what better way than to put their top stars against their young stars against everyone else in a round robin tournament?
For example, the two brackets might line-up like this:
Bobby Lashley (#1) - Current Champ
Jeff Hardy (#2) - Second Longest Reigns (Total)
Samoa Joe (#3) - Fourth Longest Reign
Austin Aries (#4) - Sixth Longest Reign
Mr. Anderson (#5) - Eighth Longest Reigns (Total)
James Storm (#6) - Tenth Longest Reign
Sanada (#7) - Former X-Division Champ (Second Longest Reign of non-former World Champs)
MVP (#8) - Veteran Star
Ethan Carter III (#9) - "Young Boy"
Bobby Roode (#1) - Longest Reigning Champ
Bully Ray (#2) - Third Longest Reigns (Total)
Magnus (#3) - Fifth Longest Reign
Eric Young (#4) - Seventh Longest reign
Abyss (#5) - Ninth Longest Reign
Rhino (#6) - Eleventh Longest Reign
Low Ki (#7) - Former X-Division Champ (Longest Reign of non-former World Champs)
Matt Hardy (#8) - Veteran Star
Samuel Shaw (#9) - "Young Boy"
I used to do this stuff all the time when I was younger so excuse me while I indulge in a little nostalgia...

So what is accomplished here?
Samoa Joe takes the top seed in his bracket with only one loss and a win over the current champion. Robert Roode earns his top spot by coming out of his bracket undefeated. Suddenly these two look like beasts and their match to become #1 contender to the Heavyweight Title is a massive deal.
Bobby Lashley loses nothing, having one loss to the winner of the bracket and otherwise dominating. Bully Ray also looks good, only losing to the eventual winner and one of his long time rivals. Austin Aries and James Storm both look strong, especially Storm who managed to be the only guy to beat Joe.
Abyss manages to look strong, coming in third in his bracket while only losing to the top two and one of his old rivals. Ethan Carter III and Sam Shaw may have only ended up in the middle of the pack but both ended up with wins over two former Heavyweight champs. EC3 managed to be the more impressive of the two, by staying strong in arguably the most difficult bracket of the two.
Jeff Hardy loses nothing by taking a few loses while Sanada looks strong by staying competitive. Eric Young, Rhino, and Matt Hardy essentially break even with each showing that while they may not be at the top of the card, they aren't pushovers either. Low Ki gains a lot by being an X-Division star battling heavyweights and getting a few unexpected wins out of it.
MVP may have come out on the bottom but he did beat the guy who beat the guy who beat the guy that won the entire bracket! Magnus ends up with a poor showing which works into his storyline with Bram and serves as motivation for him to put up or shut up if he plans to stay relevant in the company. Mr. Anderson gets the short end of the stick but as a former two time champion and a guy who made a pretty penny in WWE, I think he'll be ok.
