Right, I need a young, black superstar who I can push to the moon ... :P

SUMMERSLAM

August 17, 2014

Staples Center

Los Angeles, California

PRE-SHOW SINGLES MATCH

Cesaro vs. Rob Van Dam

RVD hits the 5-star Frog Splash over the “King of Swing” on the WWE Network pre-show to pick up the victory. After the match, RVD announced on the WWE App that he was taking some time off from the WWE but promised to be back soon.

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Miz [c] vs. Dolph Ziggler

In the opening match of the Summerslam PPV, The Miz defended his recently won Intercontinental Championship against the man he eliminated to win the title back at the Battleground Battle Royal. Despite hitting the Skull Crushing Finale, Miz was unable to emerge victorious however and Ziggler hit the Zig Zag for the 3 to become the NEW Intercontinenal Champion for the second time.

DIVAS CHAMPIONSHIP

AJ Lee [c] vs. Paige

After trading the title between them since WrestleMania, AJ and Paige, “frenemies” according to Paige, clashed once more with the Divas Championship on the line. After hitting a suicide dive to the outside, AJ countered Pagie's Paige Turner into her signature Black Widow submission, however Paige in turn countered this into a RamPaige DDT and pinned AJ, becoming a two-time Divas Champion.

FLAG MATCH

Jack Swagger with Zeb Colter vs. Rusev with Lana

With the right to fly their countries flag high and hear their national anthem up for grabs, Swagger and Rusev clashed as this U.S.A. vs. Russia battle continued at Summerslam. After weakening Rusev’s ankle before the match had even begun thanks to the Patriot Lock, Swagger looked to be heading for victory to end the undefeated streak of Rusev. However, Rusev showed his resilience to lock in the Accolade which Swagger refused to tap out of despite the pain. Unfortunately for Swagger, he passed out and the referee was forced to end the match. Victorious, Rusev and Lana looked on with pride as the Russian flag was raised high and the Russian anthem played before Rusev kicked Zeb Colter in the head to emphasise the point.

LUMBERJACK MATCH

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

After months of problems between the two former Shield members, Ambrose and Rollins finally clashed in a Lumberjack match with WWE superstars surrounding the ring. Despite the lumberjacks, the fight spilled out into the WWE Universe and the WWE Director of Operations, “Corporate” Kane, was forced to head out to demand the lumberjacks restore order. Once back in the ring, Ambrose and Rollins’ fight continued but Kane then interjected himself; Ambrose hit Rollins with the Kerb Stomp, Rollins’ own move, only for Kane to break up the pinfall. This led to a brawl between the lumberjacks which caused the chaos needed for Rollins to grab his ‘Money in the Bank’ briefcase and smash it into the skull of Ambrose to pick up a tainted victory.

SINGLES MATCH

Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho

Without Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in his corner thanks to Jericho defeating both of them on RAW in the build up to the PPV, Bray Wyatt was forced to go it alone as he faced off against Chris Jericho once more. After surviving a Codebreaker and an attempted Walls of Jericho, the patriarch of the Wyatt Family showed that he can go it alone as he hit Y2J with two Sister Abigails to get the victory.

SINGLES MATCH

Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon

For months, Stephanie McMahon and the Authority have made Brie Bella’s life hell. From trying to deny Brie’s husband Daniel Bryan the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30 and mocking his injuries since then, to forcing her to quit the WWE to try and help Bryan to hold on to the title and then making her twin sister Nikki’s life hell since she left, Brie Bella had many reasons for wanting to get her hands on the Principal Owner of the WWE at Summerslam. However, as Brie looked to be in control of the match after dropkicking HHH when he looked to interfere on his wife’s behalf, Nikki Bella clotheslined her twin sister in a shocking twist and this allowed Stephanie to hit the Pedigree to get the victory.

SINGLES MATCH

Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns

In what the WWE termed the “biggest match in the singles career” of Roman Reigns, he went to battle with the Viper looking to prove his credentials and cause even more problems for the Authority. Despite being hit with an RKO, Reigns proved that he was capable of living with the best in the WWE and hit his Spear to get the victory and continue his huge momentum in the WWE as he goes looking for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the future.

WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

John Cena [c] vs. Brock Lesnar with Paul Heyman

After upsetting the Authority by winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank, Triple H turned to the one man he believed guaranteed him a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Putting aside past differences, HHH made Brock Lesnar the #1 contender and the “biggest fight of the summer” was set with Lesnar promising to decimate the champion. After an initial offensive burst from Cena, Lesnar hit his signature F5 maneuver within the first 30 seconds of the match. Cena kicked out, but from then on the match was a one-sided beatdown, with Cena managing only brief and ineffectual spurts of offense while Lesnar continued to throw Cena to the mat over and over again. In total, Lesnar performed 16 German suplexes to Cena. Eventually, Cena did manage to get some offence as he hit his Attitude Adjustment and locked in the STF but he did not have the power to hold Lesnar who powered out once more. One more F5 was delivered and the result was academic – Brock Lesnar was the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
